About Thoughts From a Healthcare CIO
Healthcare technology is no longer just an IT conversation. Decisions about AI, cybersecurity, enterprise platforms, and digital investments increasingly shape how healthcare organizations operate, compete, and deliver care.
I am David Chou, a healthcare CIO, Forbes contributor, and technology executive with more than 24 years of global healthcare leadership experience.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked with healthcare organizations navigating complex technology decisions, major system implementations, organizational transformation, and competing financial and operational priorities.
I started Thoughts From a Healthcare CIO to share an executive perspective on the technology decisions that matter to healthcare leaders.
My writing focuses less on what technology promises and more on what it takes to make technology deliver measurable value.
What I Write About
My analysis focuses on five areas:
Artificial Intelligence: How AI is changing enterprise strategy, leadership, governance, and the economics of healthcare.
Cybersecurity and Risk: The business implications of cyber threats, resilience, and enterprise accountability.
Healthcare Technology: EHR platforms, digital health, interoperability, and technology investment decisions.
Executive Leadership: The evolving role of CIOs and how technology leaders influence organizational strategy.
Investment and Value Creation: Technology diligence, operational improvement, and the role of technology in healthcare private equity and M&A.
I write for healthcare CEOs, CIOs, CFOs, board members, investors, and technology executives who want an informed perspective beyond product announcements and industry headlines.
An Independent Executive Perspective
As a healthcare CIO, I’ve spent much of my career on the other side of the table from technology vendors, consultants, and investors.
That experience shapes how I evaluate new technologies, business cases, and industry trends.
My goal is to offer practical, independent analysis grounded in operational experience. Not every new technology deserves investment, and not every promising innovation delivers the results organizations expect.
The question I continue to ask is straightforward: What business problem are we solving, and how will we know whether the investment worked?
Advisory and Industry Partnerships
Beyond writing, I work with healthcare organizations, investment firms, and technology companies on selected advisory and industry engagements.
My areas of interest include:
Healthcare technology strategy and executive advisory
Interim and fractional CIO leadership
Private equity technology diligence and value creation
Enterprise AI strategy and governance
Technology industry analysis, executive briefings, and thought leadership
Selected brand partnerships, speaking engagements, and executive roundtables
My editorial opinions remain independent of commercial relationships.
