Is This Another Announcement On Interoperability Without Much Action?
The World Health Organization (WHO) and Health Level Seven International (HL7) have announced a collaboration to promote the adoption of global interoperability standards in healthcare with the expectation that they will finalize the standard in 2025. The collaboration will focus on developing and implementing standards allowing healthcare data to be exchanged more easily and securely across different countries and healthcare systems.
The collaboration will focus on the following areas:
Developing and implementing standards for exchanging healthcare data
Providing guidance and support to countries and healthcare organizations that are implementing interoperability standards
Raising awareness of the importance of interoperability
Chou's POV
We need to define standards in the industry, and this has been an ask for quite some time since I started my career 20+ years ago.
Adoption of the standard is critical. We have seen many coalition work on collaboration, but nothing happens when implementing the standard.
The aspiration is excellent, but we have seen similar press releases that have not taken off.
