Allscripts Q1 Analysis 

  • Pickup of 2 hospitals and one medical group practice on the sunrise EMR platform

  • 6 Ambulatory business pick up

  • Veradigm analytics platform has to be their core investment as Allscripts picked up 2 new health plan clients.

  • Microsoft Azure partnership is also helping as Allscripts is pushing the EMR hosting and analytics platform to Azure pushing healthcare organizations towards the power of cloud solutions.

  • Potential deeper discussion with Microsoft on the massive data from Allscripts on payer, pharma, ambulatory, and inpatient as a close loop ecosystem for research.

  • Huge potential in the Ad business still especially with the Practice Fusion product in the portfolio. Allscripts will definitely create a new revenue stream of the health data just like the MIB Group partnership

This was a great quarter and I would not expect the same results in the future earnings.  The EMR market space is capped and the only differentiator is the Veradigm product. 

PE firm Thoma Bravo acquires Proofpoint 

Currently, this is the largest PE cybersecurity transaction at $12.3B.  The private equity firm also bought Imperva for $2.1 billion and Barracuda Networks for $1.6 billion. In addition, it took a majority stake in Centrify, a rival of CyberArk Software. 

Vocera Update

  • RWJBarnabas Health was the largest booking in the quarter and one of the largest bookings in Vocera’s history.

  • UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention contract win.

  • PatientSafe Solutions for approximately $35 million in an all-cash transaction.

It will be interesting to see how Vocera integrates PatientSafe and Ease, their two recent acquisitions. The PatientSafe is a good entry to smaller healthcare facilities but it will be interesting to see how Vocera will market the platforms. The clinical communication market is saturated and the only way to expand market share is with M/A and upselling existing relationships.
